Reference information

Commonly cited families (verify edition on your certificate):

  • EN 10365 UPN
  • ASTM A6
  • GOST 8240

U-channels are listed in EN 10365 (UPN), ASTM A6 (C/MC-shapes), and GOST 8240. Tapered flanges and fillets differ between mills; verify against the producer’s rolling schedule for tender quantities.

Weight table

Illustrative values for common sizes of Channel at the density you selected. For procurement, always verify against mill certificates.

Figures follow the same geometric model as the calculator above; rounding and simplifications apply.

Method

How to calculate weight

Core model

A = h·tw + 2·bf·tf − 2·tw·tf   (parallel-flange U outline)
m/L = ρ · A

Field names

Parallel-flange channel (U) outline: web strip plus two horizontal flanges, minus the two web–flange corner overlaps (same thickness on web and flanges). Multiply area × length × density for kg/m—useful for quick UPN-style checks.

Real rolled channels have tapered flanges and root radii; use mill tables when margins are tight.
